Description

This Speaker Series recording we join Rhonda Feinman from Rhonda Feinman Custom Frames Inc. in Woodside, NY, as she provides a historical look at the flat panel frame that came into its own during the Italian Renaissance, though its origins trace back to antiquity.

A cassetta frame is defined by a flat inner frieze bordered by raised mouldings on the inner and outer edges. This basic shape is seen throughout the history of framing and Rhonda will explore the
myriad of permutations and modifications that bring this universal design into the 21st century.

Rhonda Feinman Custom Frames, that recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary, is a long time supplier member of the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) and frequent exhibitor at the PPFA Annual Convention’s Reception and Showcase, as well as at the West Coast Art & Frame Expo. The company manufactures handmade gold leaf frames that are faithful reproductions of historic period frames, using traditional carving and gilding techniques, made to the customer's specifications. Another capability is conserving, restoring, resizing, and reproducing antique frames.

Rhonda Feinman, who earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York City, has been working in the framing industry since 1986. She has given classes on frame history at the WCAF for many years and has written articles for Picture Framing Magazine.
