Description
Join us as we discuss Gyotaku: What it is, and why you shouldn’t be afraid of it with Betsy Wagner, MCPF.
Gyotaku is a unique and challenging art form. If you have ever wondered how to approach framing this creative medium this session will provide guidance. Betsy will review how the pieces are created and the considerations of framing pieces on paper and fabric. By giving a review of the artists process you will better understand how to discuss the inherent faults with your client and provide them with the best options for framing.
Betsy Wagner, MCPF, is the manager and head framer at Bowman Art and Framing in Portland, TX. Originally from Wisconsin, she has a PhD in equine nutrition from Texas A&M University and worked as a professor in animal science at Auburn University for 11 years. In 2017 she relocated to the Texas Coastal Bend to manage the gallery and frame shop of gyotaku and coastal artist Dinah Bowman. Betsy has updated the frame shop and implemented many of the best practices she has learned from classes with Central Texas PPFA, WCAF, and the PPFA speaker series. She has also expanded the gallery offerings to include a dozen other area artists and oversees art on display in 14-16 locations around the Coastal Bend. In her free time, she enjoys fishing, and exploring local parks and wildlife areas, and following the Green Bay Packers (yes, she is a shareholder). Betsy is also a volunteer with the sea turtle programs at the Padre Island National Seashore.
