Many of the most famous and beloved images throughout the world are works of art on canvas, and many have endured for centuries. However, this does not mean they are invulnerable to the same dangers facing other media. Punctures, soiling, and damage to the paint layer are just a few ways a canvas can be harmed.
Fortunately, simple steps with ordinary materials can go a long way in providing a protective environment.
David examines the causes of damage to a canvas and how proper backing and glazing can prevent most common damage, as well as how they can be incorporated into any design. We will also discuss common objections to these practical protective measures and explore strategies to overcome those objections.
